#6 Real life emojis are a thing now and Google lied to us
Innovation Friday! This means only one thing: it’s the time for number 6 of our bi-weekly innovation Substack. In this edition we’ll discuss Google’s failed attempt to challenge OpenAI’s GPT-4, bringing emojis to life with Magnific’s upscaler, the introduction of a European LLM and a deep dive into the use of overworlds for marketing campaigns. Let’s go!
Google introduced their own vision AI model: Gemini. But they faked it…
Google's really banking on its own version of GPT-4 called Gemini, and it showed in their latest demo video. They've come out and said that the promo video for Gemini, which got a lot of buzz, was actually tweaked to make it look better. This meant speeding up how fast it responded and using text prompts with still images, instead of showing it working in real-time with voice or video. Check it for yourself in the video below.
Google’s Gemini is being made available in three options: Nano, Pro and Ultra. Where the regular use within Bard is the Pro model. Their most powerful model (Ultra) is being compared to GPT-4 as a true competitor. Although Google has not yet announced how many parameters the language model is being trained on, a true comparison is still hard to do.
Magnific AI: the next BIG thing in generative AI
We’ve all tried generating images with ai systems like Midjourney or Dall-e. Where you’ll get nice results most of the time, it’s still not there yet details and resolution wise. Most of the generated visuals will have strange artifacts or have blurry details and a low resolution.
That’s where Magnific AI comes in the picture. This AI system is build as a upscaler for your images. But what makes Magnific awesome?
Make It Your Own: With the "Creativity" slider, you can dial up the details in your images, giving them your personal touch.
Good for All Kinds of Images: Whether it's portraits, cool illustrations, scenic landscapes, or something else, Magnific can handle a bunch of different image types.
Amp Up Your Graphics and Game Art: This tool really shines when it's making graphics and video game stuff look sharper and more detailed.
Film and Photo Magic: For film and photography pros, Magnific is a game-changer, adding that extra oomph to their work.
Boosting 3D Renders: It's also great for making 3D renders, especially for fantasy, sci-fi, and horror, look even more amazing.
Interior Design & Architecture Look Better: Upscaling images of interiors and buildings? Magnific has got you covered.
Food Photos That Pop: For those into food photography, this tool can make your shots look even more mouth-watering.
Under the hood, Magnific uses some pretty advanced AI to not just make images bigger, but to reinvent them with incredible detail and resolution. It's not about stretching out the pixels; it's about using AI to add all those little details that make photos, illustrations, and digital art truly pop. With user input and specific settings, Magnific transforms images into something really special. Check out this upscaling X-user Dogan Ural did with some emojis. It’s pretty crazy!
Mistral, a European open source AI model
AI companies like OpenAI, Anthropic and Google are focussing on very large and complex models. Meanwhile companies like the french start-up Mistral are focussed on very small models that need less computing power. This means models like these can be run locally on consumer tech, which makes them way more accessible and useful.
The new model Mistral launched is Mixtral 8x7B, this is a combination of multiple expert models. This however does mean that it is bigger then Mistral previous models. When benchmarked to different open source and closed AI models it does outperform a lot of them. Have a look at the open LLM leaderboard
So while it isn’t a small AI model anymore it is a very capable and fast model that you can run on your own environments. This with previous investment rounds closing in on 450 million euros and a 2 billion euro evaluation makes for a very interesting AI startup in the middle of Europe.
Unlocking engagement and growth: The power of overworlds in digital marketing
With new privacy legislation and new cookie regulations, it's becoming increasingly difficult or even prohibited to track people online. This makes reaching your target audience more challenging and expensive. Additionally, new methods must be found to reach the target audience efficiently. Lead generation with email registration becomes even more important in this context. This allows you to reach visitors with first-party data for new actions and interesting information. While a single lead-gen activation can be effective, bundling multiple games and activations is even more powerful. To bind these various touchpoints into one overarching experience and increase the number of contact moments with a campaign, we apply the overworlds principle.
